Pre-Sale Inspection

PRE-SALE INSPECTION

Know the Vessel Before the Deal Is Done

pre-sale inspection provides an independent, impartial assessment of a vessel’s true condition ahead of a sale and purchase transaction. Covering the hull and structure, machinery, cargo spaces, and the vessel’s class and statutory standing, it gives a prospective buyer or a seller preparing for sale a clear and honest picture of the ship, free from the interest of any party to the deal. In a transaction where the vessel is bought “as is,” the quality of the inspection is often what stands between a sound acquisition and an expensive surprise.

OUR METHOD

The Condition Behind the Asking Price

Each inspection examines the vessel across the areas that determine her real value and her fitness for continued trading.

Hull, Structure & Coatings

The hull, main deck, cargo holds or tanks, and accessible internal structure are assessed for wastage, corrosion, fractures, deformation, and coating breakdown, with attention to areas of known structural stress and previous repair. Where a buyer’s true exposure often lies in the steel, the condition of the structure is examined as closely as access allows.

Machinery & Operational Systems

The main engine, auxiliary engines, and principal systems are assessed against running hours, condition, and maintenance history, drawing on planned maintenance records and condition-monitoring data where available. Supporting and pollution prevention systems are reviewed for operational readiness, so the assessment reflects how the vessel has genuinely been maintained, not merely how she presents.

Class, Statutory & Documentary Standing

The vessel’s Class Status Report, Conditions of Class, outstanding recommendations, and survey position are verified, together with statutory certificates and key records. Any outstanding class condition, overdue survey, or discrepancy between documented and actual status is recorded plainly, as these directly affect the vessel’s value and the buyer’s post-sale obligations.

Condition Assessment & Reporting

Findings across the vessel are consolidated into a clear, structured report setting out her condition, supported by photographic evidence and, where required, a condition rating. The report distinguishes what was directly observed from what was reviewed in records, and states any limitation of access at the time of attendance giving the buyer or seller a fair and defensible basis for the transaction.
